    Pennsylvania miners, many from Ireland, wanted better pay from their capitalist employers who were trying to cut costs in the recession of the mid 1870s. Resistance became organised, then violent, and several Molly Maguires were hanged for murder. This is the sad chronological story, complete with a Pinkerton detective going undercover.
